Set against a melancholic, historical backdrop, The Last Lady is an experimental and intimate portrayal of Jane, a woman tied to a marriage upheld by love but worn down by silence and emotional restraint. Through a poetic and non-linear narrative, the film transitions between reality and dream-like states, revealing another side of Jane — expressive, unsettling, and quietly liberated.

As she grapples with expressing these inner experiences, the line between reality and imagination begins to blur. The Last Lady delves into themes of love, duality, and self-integration using mood, symbolism, and internal states, inviting the audience into a reflective space where becoming whole is both fragile and essential.
The Last Day will be shown on May 10th at the Cinema du Parc in Montreal as an official selection in the experimental section of the Montreal Independent Film Festival. The film is directed by Zafar Mehdi.

Zafar's journey exemplifies the transformative power of embracing one's true passion. Initially pursuing a career in architecture, he soon uncovered his natural talent for visual storytelling. Balancing his architectural work with his growing interest, Zafar spent weekends crafting videos and honing his editing abilities.
Realizing that his true passion lay in filmmaking, Zafar decided to leave architecture behind. He sought guidance at "The House on the Clouds," a well-known wedding filmmaking company, where he learned to create emotionally compelling narratives. This skill extended to personal travel projects, weaving cultures and emotions into powerful stories.
Inspired by a fascination with fashion and human emotions, Zafar's camera captured the essence of his subjects. From the streets of France to the landscapes of Italy and Turkey, he grew into a versatile filmmaker — cinematographer, editor, writer, and director.
Zafar's films resonate with authenticity, depicting the intricate tapestry of human experience. His transition from architecture to visionary filmmaking highlights the profound impact of following one's true calling.
