In 2020, five friends decide to seclude themselves in a holiday home to enjoy each other's company despite the pandemic restrictions. However, the initial excitement gradually gives way to everyday monotony and unhealthy coping mechanisms for isolation, which threaten to escalate.Draußen brennt's was chosen for the student film competition at the Montreal Independent Film Festival.

Born in Heidelberg, Germany, Ella Haas grew up in a German-Israeli family. After finishing school, she studied fashion design at HTW Berlin but left her studies in 2017 to travel abroad. While exploring Israel-Palestine, Greece, Turkey, and Romania, she discovered her passion for photography. Upon returning to Berlin, she began studying Screen Based Media at BHT, where she contributed to various film projects as a writer/director. These projects include a short documentary about her father's coming out as a crossdresser called RENÉ/E and experimental works like BERLINER KAMMERSPIELE, a poetic exploration of the start of the COVID pandemic. Ella Haas' graduation film, DRAUSSEN BRENNT'S, combines different film forms, blending improvised feature film and scripted documentary about five friends trying to make the best of a difficult situation at the beginning of COVID.
