Montreal Independent Film Festival has turned into a very popular seasonal competition with an annual screening event in cinema for independent filmmakers and artists from all over the globe. With thousands of entries every year, the fest has created hybrid seasonal and annual programs in order to continuously promote, screen, discover and recognize independent voices in cinema.
The seasonal competition of MIFF for the Fall 2023 competition received more than 700 submissions in various categories of the festival which includes narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, environmental and student film genres. The festival also has various contests in acting, screenwriting, cinematography, directing, etc. The festival team offers online screening to the nominees of each season while the winners go through the annual programming team for either cinema or online screening in spring of each year. The finalists of the year are screened for the public in cinema.

The mission of the festival is to promote film projects and artists to members of the film industry and other filmmakers and artists working on a variety of genres in film and Television.

Montreal Independent Film Festival has created many opportunities for independent film projects and artists to be noticed, awarded, screened and recognized in the film industry.
The festival also continues to select jury members who are assigned to various sections of the festival in each edition.
MIFF is an organization committed to selecting, awarding, promoting, featuring selecting and screening international and Canadian projects of all genres.
Every season, MIFF promotes the winning film projects and various artists working on independent arthouse films to thousands of artists and film industry professionals. Cannes award winners and Oscar nominees have also joined emerging independent artists to compete in various sections of the festival.
