A simple trip to the vet turns into a major crisis for Gemma and James, revealing underlying truths about their relationship. Set during the early stages of the pandemic, TRIAGE is a tense and introspective exploration of love amidst chaos.
David Rendall, an artist and filmmaker from Toronto now based in Picton, Prince Edward County, is currently working on the post-production of a short, animated documentary titled 'Today Is A Gift' which delves into the Holocaust in Romania, supported by the Ontario Arts Council.
The concept behind TRIAGE was to create a social realist drama with a documentary-like feel that captures the claustrophobic and isolating atmosphere of the pandemic in Ontario. David aimed to depict the confinement and pressure faced by a young couple by setting most of the film inside a van. Rather than directly addressing the virus, the film focuses on a couple's concern for their sick cat, prompting questions about the extent one would go to save their pet's life. Additionally, it explores the challenging decisions made during the pandemic. The term 'triage' refers to a system used to prioritize patient care in a crisis to maximize survival rates, a concept reflected in the conflicting crises faced by each character in the film during the state of emergency.
